The popular cleaning spray is a well-known product in\u00a0<\/span>Wibra<\/span>\u00a0stores, but this retail chain is much more than just a place for practical and affordable products.\u00a0<\/span>Wibra<\/span>\u00a0is a leading retail chain in the Netherlands, Belgium, and France, with\u00a0<\/span>nearly 300<\/span>\u00a0stores and plans to expand to 350 by 2025. Founded in 1956 as a family business, it has grown to 3,500\u00a0<\/span>employees, yet<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>remains<\/span>\u00a0a true family company focused on development and innovation to secure its future.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The challenge<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

During\u00a0onboarding,\u00a0Wibra\u00a0faced several issues. New employees received a 20-page paper onboarding booklet, but there was often no time to review it. In practice, employees were put to work\u00a0immediately\u2014behind the cash register, for example\u2014without clear instructions. As a result, they felt insecure and quickly left. More than 75% of new employees quit within a few months.<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, each store\u00a0operated\u00a0in its own way. The workflow in one store could be completely different from another, causing confusion, especially when employees temporarily worked at\u00a0different locations. There was no uniformity in processes and work instructions. Moreover,\u00a0Wibra\u00a0lacked the capacity and resources to develop a complete training program in-house. The company did not have a dedicated Learning & Development (L&D) department, nor did it employ specialists in this field. Training\u00a0mainly consisted\u00a0of personal explanations by colleagues, which was not always effective. The need for a professional and structured learning environment kept increasing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The solution<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Wibra<\/span>\u00a0established an L&D department and looked for a flexible and cost-efficient learning platform that\u00a0<\/span>fit<\/span>\u00a0both its company culture and its workforce. It\u00a0<\/span>needed<\/span>\u00a0to be easy to use, relevant to daily practice, and help employees to\u00a0<\/span>quickly and effectively learn their jobs<\/span>. After extensive research,\u00a0<\/span>Wibra<\/span>\u00a0selected Totara LMS as its learning platform. Additionally, Totara LMS\u00a0<\/span>enabled<\/span>\u00a0integrations with various retail training systems. The platform guides\u00a0<\/span>employees<\/span>\u00a0step by step through a structured six-week onboarding process, with short lessons of 5 to 10 minutes each.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally,\u00a0<\/span>Wibra<\/span>\u00a0collaborates with\u00a0<\/span>Samenwerking<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Beroepsonderwijs<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Bedrijfsleven<\/span>\u00a0(SBB), allowing practical instructors to access training as well.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The results<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Since the launch of Totara LMS, an increasing number of employees have started using the platform. In Amsterdam, 250 employees\u00a0participated\u00a0in a pilot before the actual implementation, with 140 logging in within the first week. After the national rollout, 300 employees accessed the platform in the first weeks\u2014representing\u00a015% of all employees.<\/span><\/p>\n

New employees now receive\u00a0a clear\u00a0onboarding experience<\/strong>. Managers can track<\/strong> which training modules employees have completed. Every month, new training modules are added. A key part of onboarding is the “Welcome to\u00a0Wibra” module, where new employees are introduced through videos\u00a0showcasing\u00a0the distribution center, stores, and headquarters. They are also personally welcomed by the CEO. The original goal was set to be achieved within three months, but it was exceeded by 162% within just two months.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Beyond the mandatory modules, Wibra also offers optional<\/strong> training<\/strong> modules<\/strong>, which can be featured on the homepage. One of these modules, “Dealing with Aggression,” has already been completed by 7.6% of employees within two months.<\/p>\n

Wibra\u00a0aims to increase employee engagement. The goal is to improve employee satisfaction by 5% annually until 2028<\/strong>. Through these training programs, employees gain more knowledge and confidence. This allows them to better\u00a0assist\u00a0customers and makes working at\u00a0Wibra\u00a0a more enjoyable experience.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
