Education Development Trust (EDT) is an international not-for-profit organisation working to improve education outcomes around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

They seek to improve education and transition into work through expert research on what works. Their experts deliver highly contextualised programmes designed to transform education systems, schools, and lives.<\/span><\/p>\n

EYPDP Building on Success Programme<\/h2>\n

The Early Years Professional Development Programme (EYPDP) is an initiative funded by the Department for Education (DfE) and delivered by Education Development Trust (EDT).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Programme provides high quality, evidence informed Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for pre-reception practitioners, those working with children between the ages of 2 and 4, in the most disadvantaged areas in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

The second phase of the programme was in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which aimed to boost workforce capability to support the learning and development of children aged 2 to 4 who have arguably been most impacted by Covid. Practitioners were guided and enabled to improve outcomes in Speech, Language and Communication, Early Mathematics and Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) skills, with an emphasis on recovering lost learning and improving school readiness for those children.<\/span><\/p>\n

The timeline for the second phase of the programme was one academic year and the target was to recruit 2000 Early Years Practitioners. Live interactive webinars were offered to accompany the eLearning.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Challenge<\/h2>\n

Learners needed the ability to:<\/p>\n

  • Complete a baseline survey, mid-point surveys, and endline\u00a0<\/span>survey.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • View the range of webinar groups and sign up for a webinar\u00a0<\/span>group on a chosen day and time.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • View upcoming webinars and join the Zoom meeting room via\u00a0<\/span>the link.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Complete eLearning units.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Benefits of an LP:<\/h3>\n

    A learning platform which enabled EYPs to create\u00a0<\/span>an individual username and log in, enter their profile information,\u00a0<\/span>and create an account.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    The Solution<\/h2>\n

    The project was rolled out in 6-8 weeks. EDT were able to host 2,000 Early\u00a0<\/span>Years Practitioners + 70 Programme Trainers on the platform, who could\u00a0<\/span>access the eLearning modules and webinars.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The EYPs were able to\u00a0<\/span>complete their training, which was essential to the successful delivery of\u00a0<\/span>the Early Years Professional Development Programme.\u00a0<\/span>Over 1,700 Early Years Practitioners participated in the programme.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The EYPs each completed three modules of training and attend\u00a0<\/span>accompanying webinars, comprised of:<\/span><\/p>\n

    • 7 Speech, Language and Communication units<\/span><\/li>\n
    • 6 Early Mathematics units<\/span><\/li>\n
    • 5 PSED units.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Quantitative feedback from EYPs<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

        EDT collected feedback from EYPs via surveys on the learning platform at the beginning <\/span>of the programme, after each eLearning module, and again at the end of\u00a0<\/span>the programme.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

        A total of 1,308 EYPs completed the surveys:<\/span><\/p>\n

          \n
        • 82% of EYPs accessed the learning platform via laptop or computer<\/span><\/li>\n
        • 19% accessed via iPad\/tablet<\/span><\/li>\n
        • 22% accessed via Smart Phone
          \n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          All of this shows that the learning platform was accessible from a range of devices.\u00a0Furthermore, 86% of EYPs said they were satisfied with navigating the\u00a0online platform.<\/span><\/p>\n

          \u201cThe webinars have been very good, also being able to access the e-learning in our own time made it easy to fit into family\/work life without\u00a0being too time consuming.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

          \u201cIt was interesting to hear how other practitioners did things in their\u00a0setting. This provided me with ideas that I could use in my own setting. The course content also made me think about my own practice albeit\u00a0giving me reassurance that I was doing things right or providing me with\u00a0new strategies to further enhance the child\u2019s learning in my setting.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\n

          \u201cThe course gave me a context to the children\u2019s speech and language\u00a0development that I had never heard before. For example, I understand the\u00a0different ways children play now based on where they are\u00a0developmentally with their speech and it has helped me resource my\u00a0setting better.
