{"id":40227,"date":"2022-11-24T21:29:12","date_gmt":"2022-11-24T21:29:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.totara.fortyapp.com\/customer-stories\/headspace-increases-learner-engagement-by-458-with-totara-learn\/"},"modified":"2024-08-02T20:59:23","modified_gmt":"2024-08-02T20:59:23","slug":"headspace-increases-learner-engagement-by-458-with-totara-learn","status":"publish","type":"customer-story","link":"https:\/\/staging.totara.fortyapp.com\/us\/customer-stories\/headspace-increases-learner-engagement-by-458-with-totara-learn\/","title":{"rendered":"Headspace increases learner engagement by 458% with Totara Learn"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class='inline-text-container MobileAlignment DesktopAlignment'>\n  <div class='richText'><p class=\"large\"><strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0use Totara Learn to engage their geographically displaced workforce in learning and peer-to-peer collaboration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples\u2019 wellbeing.\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0delivers services through\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0centres,\u00a0<strong>eheadspace<\/strong>,\u00a0an online and telephone service and school support which works with school communities to prepare for, respond to and recover from suicide.Young people primarily access support via\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0centres located across metropolitan, regional and rural areas of Australia. This allows young people to access health workers \u2013 whether it\u2019s a GP, psychologist, social worker, alcohol and drug worker, counsellor, vocational worker or youth worker.The\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0centres are commissioned by Primary Health Networks and run by local organisations across Australia. The role of the\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0National Office is to define the\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0model of care and support the centres to deliver it. Education and Training is a key function that supports this role.&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/headspacelearning_lms.png\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Challenge<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The challenge for\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0was to support their dispersed workforce and build their capability to deliver services in line with their evidence-based model. They aimed to meet this challenge by providing an online platform that supported delivery of training to the workforce, and interaction between workers.Their existing LMS was limited in its capacity to meet this challenge. Limitations included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>poor usability,<\/li>\n<li>poor <a href=\"\/node\/846\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"9335d942-8b50-432b-8678-db22d84fa9df\">catalogue<\/a> search functionality<\/li>\n<li>o social functionality<\/li>\n<li>poor device flexibility (static screen size and no tablet or phone access)<\/li>\n<li>a system delay between enrolment and access to a course leading to a 70% drop off between enrolment and course completion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/headspace_learning_totara.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Solution\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0needed to completely refresh their approach to their LMS. The workforce were not engaged in the current system; it was not user-friendly and\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0didn\u2019t have the ability to configure the design or user interface.\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0decided to implement <a href=\"\/products\/totara-learn\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"cc27e042-e65c-4557-8379-2643e3bdcc0f\">Totara Lear<\/a> alongside Kineo\u2019s social wave extensions including a \u2018social\u2019 newsfeed and course ratings, comments and recommendations, to encourage engagement with learning and through <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.totara.fortyapp.com\/us\/erweitertes-lernen-im-unternehme\/businesswoman-giving-presentation-during-a-seminar-2\/\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"83313d2c-fa2d-4393-88dd-06b922d5d489\">peer-to-peer<\/a> collaboration.A new efficient registration process allows the system to auto-determine learning paths based on roles, included both recommended and required training. The user-experience was greatly improved, enabling\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0workers to access learning more quickly and with a more streamlined enrolment process.A catalogue of learning with a sophisticated search function and filter system was also implemented to encourage workers to seek learning opportunities that were relevant to their role within\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>, and to the components of the\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0evidence-based model.<strong>The new LMS implementation includes the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A responsive design <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.totara.fortyapp.com\/us\/historias-de-clientes\/easyjet-drives-a-702010-learning-culture-across-seven-countries\/eaysjet-the-challenge-2\/\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"9009bc44-db78-4f59-b16a-c3fa84e8b1fb\">theme<\/a> \u2013 allowing users to access the LMS from their choice of device<\/li>\n<li>A refreshed user interface incorporating the new \u2018<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0learning\u2019 brand, keeping in line with the overall\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>brand<\/li>\n<li>Reporting dashboards for centre managers \u2013 sophisticated reporting that measures and monitors individual or group progress<\/li>\n<li>Reducing time in the administration of the system through the development of course templates and planning repeated events<\/li>\n<li>The ability to support blended learning programmes<\/li>\n<li>Virtual classroom and teleconference plugins to enable live learning and single sign o<\/li>\n<li>A newsfeed publishing learners course completions, ratings and comments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<strong>Key Features<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Multi-Device<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/node\/847\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"ab4e1aee-2880-4162-b1fa-8274458f6ff2\">Social Learning<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Customised searchable catalogue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/headspace_learning_learning.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Results\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lh6TwVjUHpQ\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>&nbsp;Since the launch of the LMS in February 2017,\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0have seen a 458% increase in the number of course completions over the same period in 2016 (Feb-March). In addition, over 492\u00a0of the\u00a0headspace\u00a0workforce have already enrolled in headspace learning.Learner comments about the new LMS include:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Thanks very much to everyone at Workforce Education and Training,\u00a0it looks brilliant and will be super useful&#8221;. \u2013 Marie O\u2019Dea, Manager, headspace Cairns<strong>&#8220;headspace<\/strong>\u00a0Learning is a big step forward for our offering to the\u00a0<strong>headspace<\/strong>\u00a0centres network.
