Your teacher shows them a technique to fix the color bleeding with a wet brush.<\/p>\n<p>This is adaptive learning in action, and it\u2019s something you would have experienced every day at school. Personalizing the learning experience for each student is an effective way to help people learn, so why not continue this idea into corporate training to create an adaptive learning organization?<\/p>\n<h3>What is an adaptive learning organization?<\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s no secret that organizations have had to adapt to a lot of change in the last year. That\u2019s why industry analyst <a href=\"https:\/\/joshbersin.com\/2020\/11\/a-new-model-for-corporate-training-the-adaptive-learning-organization\/\">Josh Bersin<\/a> believes that every company should strive to become an adaptive learning organization, with its three key practices for corporate training:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sensing &#8211; being tuned in to trends, understanding the learning impact and discovering learning needs<\/li>\n<li>Deciding &#8211; supporting talent mobility, cultivating flexible capacity and creating capability academies<\/li>\n<li>Evolving &#8211; analyzing emerging L&amp;D technology, implementing learning in the flow of work and supporting agile practices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Taking the example of the art teacher, it\u2019s understandable that very few organizations have the capacity for a real human to adapt the learning experience to every employee\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n<p>Educational psychologist Benjamin Bloom wrote about the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bloom%27s_2_sigma_problem\">2 sigma problem<\/a> back in 1984 &#8211; that is, that one-to-one, adaptive tutoring is the most effective teaching method, but as it\u2019s so costly and time-intensive, it\u2019s impossible to deliver at the scale required. That\u2019s where adaptive learning technology comes in.<\/p>\n<p>Put simply, adaptive learning technology adapts to the needs of each specific learner, whether that\u2019s based on self-paced study, intelligent adjustment of content based on previous learning performance or immediate feedback. For instance, if you are onboarding two new employees, one may be an expert in your software system while the other is a beginner. They track what people search for on the LMS so they can design their corporate training around the in-demand topics, and use <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.totara.fortyapp.com\/us\/awards-and-industry-recognition\/screen-shot-2022-11-22-at-4-53-20-pm-2\/\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"1c99d88f-328f-4914-b6c1-cf4444020e89\">dynamic audiences<\/a> to help employees move through the system automatically based on their experience and existing knowledge. Detailed profile questionnaires ensure that every single learning plan gets automatically updated with appropriate courses and verification dates. Managers can then set expected ability levels for their employees, and the LMS automatically suggests content from the course catalog to help \u201cbridge the gap\u201d between their current and target ability level.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Endeavour-Employee-Dashboard.png\" width=\"771\" height=\"441\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another example is the <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.totara.fortyapp.com\/us\/1621\/\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"26d7bc68-4f67-42aa-9c21-594c5a4d0b1e\">Endeavour Foundation<\/a>, which implemented personalized learning for 3,000 employees with Totara Learn. They used dynamic audiences to automatically generate mandatory and recommended courses for learners, which assign courses based on metadata such as the user\u2019s role in the organization or pre-set competency standards. This metadata helped guide employees to the right learning at the right time, helping Endeavour Foundation achieve its goal of boosting engagement and participation across the organization.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Adaptive learning organizations boast better employee experiences<\/h3>\n<p>Again, Josh Bersin has some interesting research into how adaptive learning organizations provide better <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.totara.fortyapp.com\/us\/why-totara\/ladies-in-office\/\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"c7a3e79f-c191-4c49-b61b-25e59ddf2094\">employee experiences<\/a>. In his research report, he turned to workplace review site Glassdoor, where he found that adaptive learning organizations have\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>14% higher reported career opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Senior leaders rated 15% higher by their employees<\/li>\n<li>13% higher overall Glassdoor ratings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So what does this show us?<\/p>\n<p>Employees are happier and more satisfied at work in adaptive learning organizations.
