Salud Digna revolutionizes employee training with Totara Learn: a journey to enhanced onboarding and engagement

Salud Digna is a health organisation based in Mexico that provides affordable and accessible healthcare services to underserved communities. With a focus on preventative care, Salud Digna offers a wide range of medical services through more than 190 health centers accross Mexico, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

The Challenge

When faced with the challenge of onboarding over 3,000 new team members, Salud Digna partnered with Kineo with the goal of enhancing employee training experiences by optimizing platform management processes. This involved delineating learning paths, automating enrollments, and providing clear training plans for each role, with defined completion days.

Some of the top priorities for the company were immediate access to initial training for new hires, real-time compliance reports, increased speed, and scalability in creating new programs and courses.

Furthermore, they aimed to incorporate evidence from external courses, enable the registration of in-person training, and provide compliance documentation for audits. The implementation of assessments and skill assessments, along with visibility into personal progress for users, was crucial. Additionally, Salud Digna wanted to offer engagement tools to users while allowing them to provide feedback on their training experiences.

The Solution

Salud Digna reached out to Kineo, a Totara Platinum Partner, to develop a solution through Totara Learn in order to meet their business needs and support their L&D strategy. The execution of the solution aimed to address three key crucial aspects.

01. Integrations

One of the key elements for adding value was managing the integrations between Totara and other software tools already used by Salud Digna, such as:

  • Digital marketing via WhatsApp: enabling personalized communication with each collaborator for the announcement of new training launches or notifications of pending courses and evaluations in their development program.
  • Fortia: the HRIS used by the company to automate the creation, update, and deletion of users, organizations, and positions.
  • Microsoft Power BI: allowing the extraction of information for constant and transparent monitoring of training certifications, supporting internal performance and compensation processes during payroll. This integration assisted the training and development team in quickly segregating information and obtaining the status of their position in terms of programs, courses, and roles.

02. Automation

To address the issue of a lack of guidance for Salud Digna collaborators on which courses to take first, Kineo implemented the automation of content delivery using Dynamic Audiences and an intuitive custom UX by Totara Kineo Edition to help learners track their progress and review pending content. Students now have processes in place to guide them toward their next learning goal, coupled with personalized communication reminding them of pending tasks.

03. Gamification

All the tactics mentioned above were enhanced with an engaging gamification strategy, incorporating elements such as a points system, badges, and leaderboards for the learning experience. This approach allowed users to become interested in participating in training programs not only because they were mandatory but also because they were enjoyable.

The Result

As a result of implementing specific programs for each collaborator, along with a clear learning path and incorporating key integrations into their platform, Salud Digna achieved a more organized, continuous, and automated delivery. This has led to increased efficiency in development and optimized timelines.

Some of the key achievements that resulted from these solutions were:

  • 400% increase in courses within less than 3 years
  • 98% completion rate for programs and certifications on the scheduled time
  • 75% reduction in complaints and support tickets received by the training and development team daily thanks to the automations which allowed the internal L&D team to reduce operational time and focus on other projects.
  • Real time report data with Power Bi which allowed the team to make more informed decisions on where to start their action plan, consequently improving the quality of learning.
  • The continuous evaluation and improvement necessary for a company with high-quality standards were made possible through the traceability of the journey of each Salud Digna member.
