Empowering Athletes and Communities: NADA Austria's Innovative LMS Revolutionizes Anti-Doping Education for All

NADA Austria is a non-profit, independent anti-doping organization covering all Austrian sports who are receiving sports funding. Its purpose is to protect clean athletes through preventive and repressive anti-doping work.

The Challenge

To effectively work against doping and substance abuse in sports and foster a culture of clean competition, NADA Austria faced the formidable task of delivering comprehensive anti-doping education to a diverse audience.

Their challenge encompassed several key objectives:

  • Raising anti-doping awareness by ensuring their messages resonated with athletes, coaches, support personnel and sports enthusiasts alike.
  • Recognizing the critical role of sports clubs/organizations in shaping athlete behaviour, they sought to equip sports managers with tools and resources needed to track and manage anti-doping knowledge and skills effectively.
  • Understanding that one size does not fit all, they endeavoured to provide learning experiences and certification programs targeted to the specific needs of athletes, coaches, support personnel and sports officials as well as sport interested persons.
  • Transform traditional learning into an interactive and engaging experience by integrating elements of gamification, motivating learners, and enhancing overall engagement.
  • With user convenience in mind, they aimed to seamlessly embed learning content within their existing MedApp and in-person workshop material, ensuring easy access for stakeholders across the sports community. “
The Solution

NADA Austria tackled extensive anti-doping education, empowering sports stakeholders in the sports community by implementing Totara Learn in collaboration with LearnChamp. Leveraging Totara Learn, they crafted a dynamic, tailor-made learning platform that effectively addresses the diverse needs of athletes, coaches, support personnel, and other key stakeholders.

At the heart of the solution is a strategic emphasis on user engagement right from the landing page. By featuring educational offerings in the catalogue without requiring login, individuals can explore content options before creating an account. The optimized registration process allows users to directly select their organization and facilitates automatic assignment to the appropriate manager. This streamlined workflow ensures a seamless onboarding experience, enabling learners to quickly access relevant resources and begin their journey.

Leveraging Totara TXP’s flexible content authoring tools, NADA Austria developed interactive learning content that captivates learners and effectively communicates the importance of clean sport. To empower sport managers and administrators, Totara Learn provides robust tracking and reporting capabilities. NADA Austria can easily monitor learner progress, completion rates, and identify areas of improvement. Totara Learn’s customizable learning pathways and competency frameworks allow to tailor content and certification programs to the specific needs of all stakeholders.

Gamification elements within Totara Learn enhance the learning experience by fostering competition and collaboration. Badges and interactive scenarios encourage learners to actively engage with anti-doping education.
Integration with NADA Austria’s existing MedApp ensures seamless access to learning content, making it convenient to engage with educational materials anytime, anywhere.

NADA Austria’s implementation of Totara Learn revolutionized their approach to anti-doping education by providing a comprehensive, engaging and accessible learning solution that motivates stakeholders across the sports community to champion clean sport and uphold the integrity of athletic competition with a focus for 2024 on the upcoming Olympic Games as well as the target groups of medical professionals and young athletes.

The Results

Their journey commenced with a bold vision: to ignite awareness, empower stakeholders, and cultivate a dynamic community fervently devoted to the ethos of clean sportsmanship. With the inauguration of their Learning Experience Platform (LXP), they unleashed a torrent of knowledge and skills, facilitating self-registration with a vetting process. This strategic move heralded a significant improvement and reach, as the platform witnessed a yearly surge with 180% growth of users impassioned to educate themselves and others on the critical significance of anti-doping rules and regulations.

Yet, their quest didn’t halt there. Empowering sport club and organization managers emerged as their subsequent mission. Through the implementation of an automated job assignment system, they revolutionized the landscape of knowledge management within sport clubs – each federation / organisation manager was given insight into the users registered under their federation / organisation. This streamlined approach not only alleviated managerial burdens but also instilled a culture of accountability and stewardship within sporting entities.

As the platform grew, tailored content and certifications became crucial to their success.
With a meticulously curated catalogue serving as the portal and user-centric dashboards, learners found themselves immersed in a bespoke learning voyage unparalleled in its personalization. Athletes, coaches, and support personnel alike revelled in accessing resources finely tuned to their unique needs and aspirations, gaining more than 215 000 training completions.

Yet, the pinnacle of transformation arrived with the advent of an interactive learning paradigm. 100 000 Badges, additional rewards, and interactive hotspot menus infused the learning journey with excitement and engagement, inspiring users to push their boundaries and pursue excellence. The result? A rapidly expanding user base, soaring to more than 15,000 in just three short years.

These statistics symbolized more than just numbers; they embodied a growing community united by their passion for clean sport. With a user-friendly interface, enthusiastic learners, and a flourishing community, NADA Austria’s online journey had only just begun, driven by their steadfast commitment to the cause. With the upcoming Olympic Games in mind, users are well prepared and equipped with knowledge and skills to live the values of clean competition by utilising the Totara TXP based offering.

We can easily and quickly add new content and courses to the platform on an ongoing basis or improve and supplement existing courses. Especially in the area of anti-doping, changes occur at least once a year, so athletes are always kept up to date. In addition, we can also react quickly if new requirements arise and make the necessary content easily available to all users. By working with Learnchamp, we also have the opportunity to implement more complex projects and improve the user experience even further.
