From the heart of ancient Europe, with the Headquarter in Avezzano (Italy), LFoundry is focused on providing access to most advanced analogue manufacturing service with a capacity of >40,000 wafers/month, innovative technology extensions, including volume 90nm and copper manufacturing, a strong emphasis on flexibility and customer partnership. LFoundry is supporting own technology IP for 150nm and 110nm with a large portfolio of process-proven libraries, IP, design tools and reference flows. LFoundry’s key focus is primarily in automotive and industrial related applications including CIS, security, smart power, embedded memory, and others.

The Challenge

LFoundry e-learning journey started in 2013 with Moodle; after e a few years their complex learning needs pushed them to look for a more compliant solution and Totara Lear turned out to be the best choice. In 2017 they upgraded to Totara Learn to link their training system with their internal HR management. Many of LFoundry’s employees needed to follow specific training courses in order to use complex machinery. This training was not only mandatory but also essential to be able to operate on these machineries. Besides, LFoundry needed to dismiss their old HRMS and performance/appraisals system that wasn’t engaging their employees effectively.

The Solutio

Thanks to Totara Learn, LFoundry’s training paths have become organised, smooth, and precise. As soon as the employee starts a technical on the job training the LMS informs, through a specific web service, the operational area about it. In this way the employee status becomes “training in progress” and he/she can access the machinery with a supervisor; only when the training has been completed another web service unlocks the machinery for the employee ID number. Furthermore, learners can obtain compliance certifications at the end of their courses, which can be spent within their company growing path. Thanks to Totara, LFoundry was also able to create specific audience groups to manage technical skills on specific machinery and to differentiate training courses based on their department. To complete the training paths the employees are also tested on soft skills and are assessed through the appraisal system which combines self-assessment and manager assessment.

Results

Since 2013 LFoundry has undertaken a long and complex path regarding their organisational training model. Thanks to Totara Learn flexibility, they were able to connect technical and behavioural training to concrete practical and operational needs by integrating their systems with Totara Learn through specific web services.

Throughout the connection system, LFoundry was able to get in real time the training commitment of the technical staff. Thanks to the deployment that MediaTouch has developed, Totara can now deliver specific enrolment reports every few minutes to regulate the machineries’ availability to each department’s technician.

Thanks to Totara, LFoundry could start a progressive replacing process of their legacy HR training & development management system. This technical integration was the first step to introduce Totara Perform inside LFoundry. Totara Perform’s recent adoption, together with Totara Engage, has the goal of integrating in a single Talent Experience Platform the entire training and development process of the human resources.

Currently about 1800 users in LFoundry take courses on Totara Learn with about 4300 active courses. These will be integrated with informal training thanks to content curation by Engage, allowing a global employees’ evaluation thanks to Totara Perform enhanced adoption.

“Thanks to Totara, our learning experience has become smooth, efficient and engaging. Our technicians can easily follow their learning paths, making sure they can use our machineries effectively, assuring the highest level of compliance”
